What is dhurva grass?

Dhurva grass (Cynodon dactylon) is a perennial grass that grows in tropical and subtropical regions. It is commonly known as Bermuda grass and is considered an important forage crop for livestock.

Dhurva grass has a creeping growth habit, forming a dense mat with short, tough roots. The leaves are slender and pointed, and the stems are flat. The grass can grow up to 30-40 cm in height, but is often kept shorter through regular mowing.

In addition to its use as a forage crop, dhurva grass is also used for turf and erosion control. It is a hardy plant that is tolerant of drought and can grow on various soil types. However, it can also become invasive in some areas, spreading quickly and outcompeting other plants.

Dhurva grass has also been used in traditional medicine for various purposes. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, and has been used to treat conditions such as fever, jaundice, and stomach ailments.
